Adrienne E. Adams, a former New York City Council speaker, is Gov. Kathy Hochul’s running mate for lieutenant governor in the Nov. 3 election.
The state’s amended certification lists Hochul and Adams on the Democratic and Working Families lines. Bruce Blakeman and Todd Hood appear on the Republican, Conservative and Vote Affordable lines.
Governor and lieutenant governor are elected as a ticket. Adams and Hood are running mates in that paired contest rather than candidates in a separate lieutenant-governor election.
Public-service background
The City Council’s January 2022 announcement records Adams’ election as speaker and identifies her as the first Black Council member to hold that role.
The announcement describes her work representing Queens’ 28th Council District and prior leadership of the Council’s Public Safety Committee.
The Council’s official biography says Adams was elected to the Council in November 2017. Before that, she chaired Queens Community Board 12 and worked as a corporate trainer.
Her bachelor’s degree is in psychology from Spelman College, according to that biography.
No submitted Surround Sound Media questionnaire response from Adams was available as of Oct. 14.
Correction, Oct. 14, 2026: This profile now clarifies that lieutenant governor is elected on a joint ticket with governor and corrects the description of Adams’ degree to psychology from Spelman College.
Responses are based on public data and answers to a Surround Sound Media questionnaire if they were provided.
