Nassau County Executive Bruce A. Blakeman is challenging Gov. Kathy Hochul in New York’s Nov. 3 election, with Madison County Sheriff Todd Hood as his running mate.

The state’s amended certification lists Blakeman and Hood on the Republican, Conservative and Vote Affordable lines. Hochul and Adrienne Adams appear on the Democratic and Working Families lines.

Experience

Blakeman was elected Nassau County executive in November 2021 and took office Jan. 1, 2022, according to the county’s financial statement. He previously served on the Hempstead Town Council and as a Port Authority commissioner.

His official county biography identifies him as an attorney and a graduate of Arizona State University and California Western School of Law. It also lists earlier service in the county Legislature.

Campaign priorities

Blakeman’s campaign website emphasizes lower taxes, reduced household costs and changes to state public-safety policy. He presents his county record as preparation for statewide office.

The campaign favors changing cash-bail policy and stronger cooperation with federal immigration enforcement. These are his campaign positions rather than independent assessments of their effects.

No submitted Surround Sound Media questionnaire response from Blakeman was available as of Oct. 14.
