Scarsdale attorney Deborah A. Scalise will receive the Partner in Justice Award at a Sept. 16 gala in New Rochelle. Legal Services of the Hudson Valley (LSHV) will host the Equal Access to Justice Gala at Greentree Country Club on Davenport Avenue.
Scalise, a principal of Scalise & Hamilton, P.C. on Brook Street in Scarsdale, represents lawyers, judges and accountants in professional responsibility and ethics matters.
She is one of three honorees at the annual fundraiser, which is expected to draw more than 300 attendees from the legal, corporate and nonprofit sectors, according to the Yonkers Times.
Before entering private practice, Scalise served as Deputy Attorney General in Charge of Public Advocacy for the Westchester Region, Deputy Chief Counsel to the Departmental Disciplinary Committee for the First Judicial Department and as an Assistant District Attorney in Kings County.
In January 2019, she received the New York State Bar Association's Ruth G. Shapiro Memorial Award for pro bono contributions to women's concerns. LSHV previously recognized her during National Pro Bono Week in October 2018 for ethics mentorship to the organization.
She also volunteers as a legal advisor and coach for Rye Neck High School's mock trial team in the Westchester County/New York State Bar Association competition.
Rachel Halperin, CEO of Legal Services of the Hudson Valley, said in a statement that the gala "brings together people who believe that justice should never depend on a person's income."
The other honorees are the Hon. Lyndon D. Williams, who will receive the Champion of Justice Award, and Cliff Weber, Esq. with The PCSB Community Foundation, receiving the Community Partner in Justice Award.
Legal Services of the Hudson Valley, founded in 1967, provides free civil legal aid across seven counties: Westchester, Putnam, Dutchess, Orange, Rockland, Sullivan and Ulster.
The organization handled more than 12,000 legal matters and served more than 9,000 clients last year, according to LSHV.
The gala runs from 6 to 9 p.m. on Wednesday, Sept. 16. Tickets and sponsorship information are available at e.givesmart.com/events/Pih.
