Scarsdale's annual fall leaf collection begins Monday, Oct. 19, and runs through Friday, Dec. 4, according to a Village of Scarsdale notice posted Friday, Oct. 16.

Village crews will cycle through neighborhoods roughly every 20 business days.

Leaves must be raked to the strip between the curb and the property line. Blowing or sweeping them into the street violates the Village Code, and property owners can receive a summons for improper disposal. That liability extends to violations caused by a lawn care provider, according to the village's leaf collection page.

Piles must be free of branches, twigs, grass clippings and other debris. Mixed piles will not be collected.

Residents who prefer bagging can use biodegradable paper bags and set them at the curb for weekly pickup.

Gas-powered leaf blowers remain prohibited Saturday through Monday and on state and federal holidays. Electric blowers may be used any day.

The village is encouraging residents to mulch-mow leaves in place rather than raking them to the curb. Mulching benefits lawn health, reduces phosphate runoff and helps prevent localized flooding from clogged storm drains, the village said.

No leaves may be deposited into any brook, stream or open watercourse.
