Three Scarsdale Village businesses are collecting food donations through July 31, part of a village-wide drive addressing the summer gap when donations drop but need doesn't — especially for families whose kids rely on free school meals.
Starbucks (51 East Parkway), Lover's Diamonds (14 Garth Road), and Ovder Scarsdale (14 Palmer Avenue) are hosting collection bins alongside five municipal sites: Village Hall, the Public Library, the Public Safety Building, the Department of Parks and Recreation, and the Municipal Pool Complex.
More than 62,000 Westchester children lose access to free school meals each summer, according to Feeding Westchester, the county's food bank, which distributed 21.2 million pounds of food last fiscal year. Donations typically decline over the summer even as need stays high.
Brown rice, whole grain pasta, shelf-stable milk, canned meat and fish, peanut butter, whole grain cereals, oatmeal, canned vegetables, and canned or dried fruit. Glass containers aren't accepted.
