The U.S. Postal Service will honor Scarsdale native Linda McCartney with a set of Forever stamps featuring five of her photographs, debuting Sept. 25, at the Museum of Modern Art in New York City.
McCartney, born Linda Eastman in Scarsdale in 1941, built a career as a photographer, musician, cookbook author and animal rights activist before her death in 1998 at age 56.
The 20-stamp pane showcases five of her nature and still life photographs, including images of sunflowers and a teapot, according to PetaPixel.
A photograph of a bowl of maraschino cherries, which appeared on the cover of Paul McCartney's first solo album in 1970, is also among the featured images, t2online reported.
USPS art director Derry Noyes designed the stamps and stamp pane.
The selvage features a black-and-white self-portrait of McCartney behind her camera.
A first-day-of-issue ceremony will take place at 11 a.m. at MoMA.
Attendees must RSVP, according to the USPS press release issued Aug. 24. The stamps will go on sale at post offices and on usps.com the same day.
The USPS described McCartney as a pioneering photographer and animal rights activist who played a central role in the vegetarianism movement.
McCartney's photography career started while she was working as an editorial receptionist at Town & Country magazine. She photographed the Rolling Stones in 1966, and editors turned her shots into a feature. She went on to photograph Eric Clapton, the Doors, Otis Redding, Jimi Hendrix and Frank Zappa.
In 1968, her portrait of Clapton made her the first female photographer to have her work featured on the cover of Rolling Stone magazine.
"She eventually did get the correct reputation, but at first it was just blown out of the water by the headline-grabbing marriage," Paul McCartney told The Guardian in June 2019, reflecting on how their 1969 marriage initially overshadowed Linda's photography.
She and Paul McCartney co-founded the pop-rock band Wings in 1971, with Linda on keyboards. The band released seven studio albums.
Her photographs have been exhibited at the Royal Photographic Society and the Victoria and Albert Museum in the United Kingdom.
She first developed her interest in photography while studying at the University of Arizona.
Upcoming: The Linda McCartney stamp ceremony takes place Friday, Sept. 25, at MoMA. The stamps will be available at U.S. post offices and on usps.com that day.
