Westchester County transit riders can visit the MTA's mobile sales van at locations across the county the week of Nov. 16 through Nov. 20.

Westchester County Government posted on X that the van will offer several services during its five-day swing through the county. Riders can apply for a Reduced-Fare MetroCard, get help with an existing application, sign up for the OMNY tap-to-pay system, transfer value from a MetroCard to an OMNY card, add money to an OMNY card or ask questions about OMNY.

The van accepts only credit card transactions for OMNY services, according to the MTA's mobile sales page. The MTA advises riders to call 511 before visiting because schedules are subject to change.

Who qualifies for reduced fares

Riders who are 65 or older, have a qualifying disability or fall in a low-income bracket can apply for reduced fares of $1.50 on subways and local buses, according to the MTA. That is half the regular fare.

Fare discounts are also available on Metro-North for customers who are 65 or older, have a disability or are Medicare recipients. Riders must bring proper documentation, which can include a government-issued driver's license or non-driver ID, a passport, an NYC Department of Aging ID card, a Reduced-Fare OMNY Card or Reduced-Fare MetroCard, or a birth certificate or Medicare card accompanied by a photo ID.

A Reduced-Fare OMNY Card also counts as acceptable documentation for reduced fares on Metro-North, the MTA said.

Last chance before the van leaves Westchester

Westchester County Government announced on Facebook that starting in January 2027, the MTA mobile sales van will no longer make stops in the county. After that, riders can still add money to OMNY cards online or at participating retail locations, get OMNY information by phone or online, and apply for a Reduced-Fare OMNY Card by mail.

The county has not announced whether additional van visits are scheduled between November and January.
