Bronxville residents can drop off old electronics, clothing, pumpkins and other household items for reuse or recycling at the next Take Back Day on Saturday, Nov. 21.

The event runs from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. at two locations, according to the Bronxville Green Committee's website.

The Village of Bronxville sponsors the event with support from the Green Committee and the Department of Public Works.

The committee is also reminding residents of a change to the Village's food scrap recycling program. As of July 2026, the Village no longer sells compostable liner bags. Residents must now buy their own, and the bags must carry the BPI-certified compostable logo. Plastic and biodegradable bags are not accepted.

Two drop-off sites

Sensitive documents go to the Elementary School Parking Lot on Midland Avenue, where a county mobile shredder will be on site. Each household may bring up to four file-sized boxes of personal papers. The committee advises that once the shredder is full, it will stop accepting items, so residents should plan to arrive early.

All other donations go to Palumbo Place behind Village Hall, accessible from Midland Avenue.

What's accepted

The Palumbo Place site will take electronics including computers, TVs, printers and related cords (no batteries) for safe dismantling by Westchester County. New York State law requires electronics to stay out of the regular waste stream.

Gently used clothing for children and adults, shoes, curtains, purses, backpacks and linens will be collected by Big Brothers Big Sisters of Family Services of Westchester. Proceeds support youth mentoring programs.

Clean towels and blankets (no sheets), along with small animal carriers and beds (no crates), will go to local animal shelters.

The site also accepts used sneakers and running shoes in any condition, youth soccer gear, intact eyeglasses without cases for Lions International and corks.

Pumpkins and gourds are accepted for composting, but no painted or glittered ones.

Book donations go to permanent bins behind Village Hall that are available year-round.

Composting bag update

Residents who participate in the Village's voluntary food scrap recycling program can pick up a starter kit at Village Hall for $25, Monday through Friday, 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. The kit includes a countertop pail, transfer bin, compostable liners and a guide.

But replacement liner bags are no longer sold at Village Hall. The Green Committee's food scrap recycling page lists purchasing options and notes that bags can often be found at Acme. The key requirement: look for the BPI-certified compostable logo.

Food scraps are dropped off at Palumbo Place behind Village Hall, where a commercial composter collects them.

The program is cost-neutral for the Village because Westchester County subsidizes hauling, according to the Green Committee.
