Bronxville completed a new sidewalk near the Bronxville School during summer 2026 and has two more pedestrian safety projects in the pipeline, according to the village's fall update.

The Village of Bronxville published a fall 2026 update on its pedestrian and traffic safety initiatives page, last updated in September 2026. The update covers one completed project, one under active review and one being coordinated with Westchester County.

Meadow Avenue sidewalk complete

A permanent sidewalk along the north side of Meadow Avenue, between Pondfield Road and Garden Avenue, was installed during summer 2026. The sidewalk replaced a temporary striped pedestrian area that had been in place since 2025. It now provides a dedicated walking route next to the Bronxville School.

Avon Road and Prescott Avenue under review

The village is evaluating a new traffic-calming layout at the intersection of Avon Road and Prescott Avenue. The proposal calls for restriping the small traffic island and adding a left-turn lane for westbound traffic heading uphill. The village's update says the changes are meant to improve sightlines, channel vehicles more clearly through the intersection and reduce speeds.

Village Administrator James Palmer reported in a June 2026 newsletter that temporary traffic-calming measures, including new striping and traffic islands near Hobart, Summit, Avon and Prescott, were being tested and refined before permanent installation. The Village Board also considered restricting parking on the south side of Avon Road at Prescott Avenue to improve visibility.

The village's update says officials hope to test the proposed configuration with new pavement markings this fall. No firm date has been set.

Paxton Avenue work with Westchester County

The village is working with Westchester County on improvements near the Bronx River Parkway exit ramp at Paxton Avenue. The project aims to improve pedestrian access to the Bronx River Reservation and make the intersection safer for both walkers and drivers. As part of the work, the village plans to replace and widen the sidewalk along Maltby Park.

No construction timeline has been announced for the Paxton Avenue project. Residents with questions about any of the three projects can contact Palmer at [email protected] or visit the village's pedestrian and traffic safety page.
