Scarsdale's pool complex will stay open through summer 2027 after the Village Board pushed its planned renovation back a full year.

Deputy Mayor Dara Gruenberg announced the delay at the board's Sept. 8 meeting, first reported by Scarsdale10583.com. The existing pool on Mamaroneck Road had been scheduled to close this fall so construction on a new indoor/outdoor complex could begin, with a target opening before summer 2028.

Under the revised timeline, construction would start after the 2027 season closes. The new outdoor facility is targeted to open for summer 2029, limiting the closure to one summer, according to Mayor Justin Arest's Sept. 9 community letter.

The pool opened in 1969.

The board authorized bond funding for the project earlier in 2026 but determined more work was needed to bring the design within budget. The Pool Working Group, village staff and the Pool Redevelopment Advisory Committee (PRAC) are now scrutinizing costs and identifying value-engineering opportunities.

"Taking the additional time to do this work now is the responsible course," Gruenberg said at the Sept. 8 meeting. "It allows us to refine the project before moving into construction and, importantly, means residents will be able to enjoy the existing Pool Complex for another summer."

Three resident volunteers with architecture and construction backgrounds have joined PRAC to assist. Scott Schiamberg, a 16-year Scarsdale resident, brings more than 30 years of sports-architecture experience. Jack Miller, a 30-year resident, is a former chair of the Board of Architectural Review. Christian Callaghan, a 30-plus-year Scarsdale resident and licensed architect, has served on the Board of Architectural Review since 2020.

Resident Carrie Moscowitz welcomed the extra summer in a Sept. 9 response reported by Scarsdale10583.com. She wrote that pool users had been upset all season and called for prioritizing the outdoor facility over a costly indoor component.

Meanwhile, Scarsdale's downtown continues to add tenants. At the board's Sept. 22 meeting, Core Burn Pilates received approval to open a 1,539-square-foot studio at 100 Christie Place, in the former Bank of America space, Scarsdale10583.com reported. Caffe Nero, a coffee shop and café, is also coming to the corner of East Parkway and Christie Place. No opening date has been announced for either business.

As we reported Oct. 1, Capretta Italian restaurant also recently opened downtown, and Scarsdale Wine Merchants relocated to East Parkway.

New York Knicks guard Jalen Brunson, who moved to Scarsdale, was spotted dining at One Rare Steakhouse on East Parkway the weekend of Sept. 27, Scarsdale10583.com reported.

The village has not announced a date for the next public update on the pool project. Residents can find project details at the village's pool project page on scarsdale.com.
