Scalini Osteria is the sole Bronxville restaurant on Westchester Magazine's new list of seven spots for outdoor garden dining, published Wednesday. The feature highlights the Italian restaurant's secluded courtyard and front patio, describing the location as "secreted away from the village's log-jammed main thoroughfare and reminiscent of a quaint Tuscan enclave."
Brothers Angelo and Elio DiRosa, originally from Italy's Abruzzo region, opened the 45-seat restaurant in 2008 below street level on Pondfield Road, just around the corner from downtown Bronxville's main strip. The brick courtyard features trailing ivy and hydrangeas in summer, with heat lamps and blankets available on cooler nights, plus a front patio as a second outdoor option. The brothers also run Mamma Assunta Ristorante in Tuckahoe, focused on classic Abruzzo recipes.
Housemade pastas run $32 to $41, with entrees from $35 to $52. The kitchen sources ingredients from the Hudson Valley and imports specialty items from Italy.
The other six restaurants on the magazine's list are in Armonk, Bedford (two spots), New Rochelle, Hastings-on-Hudson, and Yorktown Heights — no other Bronxville, Scarsdale, or Eastchester restaurant made the cut.
Scalini Osteria serves lunch and dinner Monday through Friday, weekend brunch starting at 11:30 a.m., with dinner running until 10 p.m. Saturdays and 9 p.m. Sundays. Reservations: 914-337-4935.
