The Bronxville School welcomed about 1,570 students to its Pondfield Road campus Tuesday, Sept. 8. The 2026-27 school year brings device-free kindergarten classrooms and a new varsity girls volleyball team.
Superintendent of Schools Dr. Rachel Kelly framed the year around the district's "Bronxville Promise," a five-value framework built on the words Innovate, Lead, Engage, Think and Belong. The district describes it as "our North Star."
Kelly said she was glad to have students back and looked forward to a year of growth. "The first day of school marks the beginning of new opportunities for every student to fulfill the Bronxville Promise inside and outside the classroom," she said in a first-day message.
Across the single K-12 campus, students explored classrooms, organized supplies and reviewed expectations, according to the district.
Sixth graders spent time with advisors who guided them through the transition to middle school. At the high school, seniors led building tours for incoming ninth graders.
What's new this year
Several policy changes approved by the Board of Education take effect this fall. Kindergarten classrooms are now device-free. Grades 1 and 2 will have Tech-Free Tuesdays and Fridays, while grades 3 through 5 will have Tech-Free Tuesdays. Elementary and middle school students are shifting from one-to-one devices to shared classroom carts, and sixth and seventh graders will no longer bring Chromebooks home, myHometown Bronxville reported in June.
A capital improvement project that began over the summer includes plumbing demolition, asbestos abatement and preparation for new HVAC installations.
Board updates
The Board of Education held its last meeting Thursday, Sept. 3. Members approved the 2026-27 Building Level Emergency Response Plan, fire safety procedures and student placement recommendations. Board President Eddie Lennon and Vice President Sara Kenny lead the board this year. Elizabeth Barnes, a senior, serves as the ex-officio student member.
The district has not published the date of its next board meeting. Families can check the board calendar on the district's website for updates.
