Bronxville High School senior Diana McEnroe's photographs of tourists glued to their phones at French landmarks are on display at the Bronxville Public Library through the end of September.

The exhibit, titled "The Way We Live Now," fills The Little Gallery on the library's lower level at 201 Pondfield Road.

McEnroe will answer questions about her work at a public Q&A on Wednesday, Sept. 30, from 2:30 to 3:30 p.m.

McEnroe traveled to France with plans to photograph famous vistas. Once there, she found herself drawn to a different subject: the people standing in front of those landmarks, experiencing the scenery through their phone screens. She shifted her camera toward the visitors instead of the views.

"I see this as a sympathetic portrait of my generation," McEnroe said in a Bronxville School district announcement published Sept. 11. "It reflects the habits I share myself – the instinct to document, to scroll, to turn toward a screen even when something meaningful is right in front of us."

She said she wanted to capture that tension honestly, without judgment.

The district called the collection a warm but clear-eyed look at how a generation raised on screens interacts with the world around it. McEnroe's images show people photographing, posting and scrolling at sites most travelers cross an ocean to see in person.

The Sept. 30 Q&A gives Bronxville residents a chance to hear McEnroe discuss her process and the ideas behind the work. The Little Gallery sits on the lower level of the Bronxville Public Library. For hours and exhibit details, call (914) 337-7680.
