The Picture House Bronxville is screening "Tony," an A24 biopic about a young Anthony Bourdain, and will host a Craft Night showing of Practical Magic 2 on Thursday, Sept. 17.
"Tony" follows a 19-year-old Bourdain as he lands in Provincetown, Massachusetts, and stumbles into the world of a restaurant kitchen. The film draws on the opening chapters of Bourdain's 2000 memoir "Kitchen Confidential," according to Publishers Weekly.
Dominic Sessa stars as the young Bourdain, with Antonio Banderas and Emilia Jones in supporting roles. The film is rated R. It runs one hour and 46 minutes and has showtimes at the four-screen theater at 84 Kraft Ave. through at least Sept. 24.
The movie has boosted interest in Bourdain's writing. Between the week before "Tony" premiered on Aug. 7 and the week ended Aug. 29, trade paperback sales of "Kitchen Confidential" jumped 194%, Publishers Weekly reported.
The Sept. 17 Craft Night begins at 7:30 p.m. with a screening of Practical Magic 2.
Crafting influencer Jennie Stitched This leads the evening, which keeps the house lights dim so attendees can knit, crochet or work on other projects while watching. The format is part of a recurring series highlighted by ArtsWestchester in its September guide.
The sequel brings back Sandra Bullock and Nicole Kidman as sister witches Sally and Gillian, picking up 25 years after the 1998 original. Directed by Susanne Bier, the Warner Bros. film pulled in $13 million on its opening Saturday, Sept. 12, Variety reported.
The new programming follows a busy stretch for the century-old theater.
On Saturday, Sept. 12, Picture House Bronxville sold tickets to all screenings for 25 cents, matching the price when the theater first opened in 1926.
The free Senior Cinema series also returned Tuesday, Sept. 8, offering afternoon screenings at 2:30 p.m. for guests 65 and older through June 2027.
"Senior Cinema has become such a meaningful part of our community," Executive Director Clayton Bushong said in a Sept. 8 announcement of that program.
"It gives older adults a reason to get out, connect with friends and neighbors … and share an experience together."
"Tony" is also playing at Bedford Playhouse and Jacob Burns Film Center.
