Bronxville's Village Board of Trustees convened a special meeting Thursday, Aug. 6, dedicated entirely to interviewing police officer candidates, the latest step in a recruiting drive that has brought eight new officers to the department since June 2024.
The village posted notice of the session on Tuesday, Aug. 4, listing no other agenda items.
A steady recruiting pipeline
The department, led by Chief Christopher Satriale, has drawn heavily from the NYPD's ranks. Officers hired since June 2024 include:
- Fadi Khader, Anthony Franciotti, Dimitri Gallard and Brandon Serrano — welcomed at a Village Hall ceremony on June 11, 2024. Khader brought four years of NYPD experience and fluency in Arabic.
- Christopher Layton — seven years NYPD experience (July 2024)
- Paul Cozzolino — 2.5 years NYPD experience (November 2024)
- Samantha Pena — six years NYPD experience (January 2025)
- Sydney Newbury — four years NYPD experience (January 2025)
The Bronxville Police Department announced each hire on its official X account, noting that most recruits entered field training upon arrival.
The pattern is clear. Every officer hired in this stretch came with prior NYPD experience, ranging from 2.5 to seven years on the force.
The June 2024 ceremony also marked the retirement of Sgt. Bart Sandarciero after 22 years of service. Sandarciero founded the department's Emergency Response Unit. At the same event, Cheryl Jarosz and Wilson Valentin were promoted to sergeant.
What's next
Meeting minutes from Thursday's session had not been posted as of publication. The department's 2024 Annual Report, released in February 2025 and compiled by Sgt. Jarosz, documented personnel changes and staffing trends, but specific authorized headcount figures have not been made public.
