Capretta, a modern Italian restaurant from Z Hospitality Group, opened at 57 Spencer Place in Scarsdale Village with a ribbon-cutting ceremony on Sept. 22.
Mayor Justin Arest, Deputy Mayor Dara Gruenberg and Trustee Tim Foley cut the ribbon at the storefront near East Parkway, which previously housed Akai Japanese restaurant. The restaurant had begun dinner service a week earlier, on Sept. 15, as lohud.com first reported. Lunch service launched on the day of the ribbon-cutting.
Capretta is Z Hospitality Group's eighth restaurant. The group, founded in 1991 with Terra Greenwich, also operates Aurora in Rye and locations across Fairfield County, Connecticut, including Mediterraneo, Eastend, Solé and Blackbird.
The space is described as airy and bright, with doors that open to the street. The menu features handmade pastas, wood-fired meatballs with whipped ricotta and seafood including butterflied branzino and Parmesan-crusted West Coast halibut, according to the restaurant's website. Detroit-style and regular pizzas round out the offerings. Dinner runs 5 p.m. to 10 p.m. Monday through Thursday, to 10:30 p.m. Friday and Saturday and to 9:30 p.m. Sunday. The phone number is 914-202-6900.
A few doors down, Scarsdale Wine Merchants has settled into a larger storefront at 30 East Parkway after relocating from 2 Depot Place. The new space sits near the former home of Zachys, the longtime Scarsdale wine institution that moved to Port Chester during the COVID-19 pandemic.
The move came after the landlord at 2 Depot Place declined to renew the shop's lease, according to Westfair Online. The shop's legal entity, Westchester Wine Curators, petitioned the State Liquor Authority for permission to relocate. The SLA approved the move on June 16.
A competing shop, Scarsdale Wine & Spirits at 1 Christie Place, filed a petition in Westchester Supreme Court on Aug. 13 seeking to overturn that approval. The petition argued the move would not serve public convenience in what it called an already saturated market. The outcome of that case has not been made public.
Owner Kristie Petrullo Campbell, a sommelier, plans to host weekend tastings at the new location, Scarsdale10583.com reported. The shop is open Monday through Saturday from 11 a.m. to 8 p.m. and Sunday from noon to 5 p.m.
