5 Bronxville players named to lohud's 2026 football watch list

Five Bronxville High School football players earned spots on lohud's 2026 Super 11 Watch List, published Monday, Aug. 10, as the defending state Class C champions prepare to chase a second straight title.

Charlie Atkenson, Theo McMurray, Will Molloy, Anton Schmidt and Henry Scholes all made the annual list, which is compiled with input from area coaches and spotlights returning impact players and high-potential newcomers heading into the fall season.

The recognition comes eight months after the Broncos capped a perfect 12-0 season by beating Chenango Forks 42-25 in the Class C state championship game at JMA Wireless Dome in Syracuse on Dec. 6, 2025. That title was Bronxville's first since 2010. Before the championship run, alumni from that 2010 team visited the locker room to share what a state title means to the village.

What the players did in 2025

McMurray, the team's quarterback, completed 9 of 14 passes for 190 yards in the state semifinal win over Schuylerville and threw two touchdown passes in the championship game, including a 21-yard back-shoulder fade to Desmond Heathwood and a 30-yard screen to Brian Formato.

Schmidt, a defensive lineman, recorded a sack in the title game and helped stop Schuylerville on a fourth-and-3 in the semifinal. Atkenson recovered a fumble against Schuylerville that gave Bronxville possession at the 48-yard line.

Scholes, a 6-foot-3, 285-pound offensive lineman in the Class of 2027, anchored the line for a team that demolished opponents by an average margin of 29.5 points. Molloy, also Class of 2027 at 6-foot-2 and 205 pounds, rounds out the group.

"Effort has been the key word for us," Scholes said after the December championship win. "It's all the work we put in, and getting great looks from our scout team. And with the guys we're blocking for, there's extra motivation knowing that if you do your job, guys like Brian will do something great."

What's ahead

Head coach Patsy Manganelli's squad opens official Section 1 practice on Monday, Aug. 17. The regular-season opener is Friday, Sept. 4 at home against Averill Park.

The Broncos went 12-0 and won by an average of nearly 30 points per game in 2025. Every team in Section 1 will see that target on Bronxville's back when the season kicks off.
