Someone may have drawn a swastika on the walkway leading to a Jewish family's home in Hastings-on-Hudson, just miles from Scarsdale and Bronxville, and police want to know who did it.

The homeowner discovered the marking on the evening of Thursday, July 9, and called police, according to officials cited in local media reports. As of Friday, July 10, no arrests had been made. The investigation remains active.

Police have not confirmed the exact nature of the marking, and no named spokesperson has issued a public statement. The street address has not been released.

For residents who followed the antisemitism crisis at Scarsdale High School this spring, the news lands with an uncomfortable echo. In that case, Israeli Culture Club flyers were placed in urinals, prompting a packed school board meeting on Monday, May 11, and ultimately the resignation of the board president on Friday, April 24.

The ADL's 2025 annual audit recorded 1,160 antisemitic incidents statewide, double the level before October 2023. Fifty of those incidents occurred at homes or housing locations. Physical assaults against Jewish New Yorkers rose nearly 10% to 90 in 2025.

A marking on a walkway may or may not meet the legal threshold for a hate crime, but the Westchester County District Attorney's office, led by DA Susan Cacace, works with local police on bias-related investigations and trains officers on hate crime law.
