Two familiar Westchester shopping stops are disappearing, changing where local shoppers go for luxury goods, books and weekend browsing.
Neiman Marcus at The Westchester mall in White Plains is closing as part of a nationwide restructuring of Saks Global, while the Barnes & Noble location at White Plains City Center has also shut down.
The Neiman Marcus closure comes after Saks Global filed for bankruptcy and cut several stores from its portfolio. The company, which owns Neiman Marcus and other luxury retailers, emerged from bankruptcy in June with a smaller footprint.
The Saks Off 5th store on Tarrytown Road in White Plains also closed during the restructuring.
For many residents, the closures mark the end of longtime retail destinations. Neiman Marcus has been a major anchor at The Westchester, while Barnes & Noble served as one of the few remaining traditional bookstores in the area.
Meanwhile, Wayfair plans to open a 114,000-square-foot store at Ridge Hill in Yonkers in early 2027. The location will be the online furniture company’s first New York store.
Retail officials have also indicated that MINISO, a discount variety retailer expanding across the country, is exploring additional U.S. locations, though no Westchester store has been announced.
A replacement tenant for the former Neiman Marcus space at The Westchester has not been announced.
