Sarah Lawrence College will offer two new creative movement classes for children on its Bronxville campus starting Jan. 12, 2027, with spots capped at 15 kids per class and registration open now.

The 12-week programs, announced by the college through its Office of Lifelong Learning, are geared toward children who want to move and create without the pressure of recitals or competition.

No previous dance experience is required.

The younger class, Creative Movement and Expression, serves ages 3 to 5 and meets Tuesdays from 3:15 to 4:15 p.m. Tuition is $395. Activities include imaginative movement games, rhythm exercises and creative play with simple props.

The older class, Movement, Creativity, and Connection, is for ages 6 to 10 and runs Tuesdays from 4:30 to 6:00 p.m. at $595. That session adds improvisation, group games focused on cooperation and ensemble movement.

Both programs run through March 30, 2027, at 1 Mead Way. Second-year graduate students in Sarah Lawrence's Master of Science in Dance/Movement Therapy program teach every session under faculty guidance. Classes with nine or more students will have two instructors. A minimum enrollment is required for each class to run.

The college describes the programs as educational enrichment informed by dance/movement therapy principles, not psychotherapy or clinical treatment. The classes welcome children with different learning, sensory, movement and communication styles. Parents and caregivers will generally not stay in the classroom during sessions.

A limited number of reduced-tuition spots may be available. Families can register at Sarah Lawrence's program page, email [email protected] or call 914-395-2659.
