A major stormwater upgrade is closing part of Catherine Road in Scarsdale for the summer as crews replace aging culverts designed to help prevent flooding.

The village began the FEMA-funded project Monday, July 6, closing Catherine Road between Quaker Center and Kelwynne Road. Contractor Morano Brothers Corp. is replacing the southern box culvert, with the first phase expected to continue through mid-August.

Crews will work from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday, weather permitting. No weekend or overnight work is planned unless unexpected issues arise.

Drivers should follow posted detours around the closure.

The project is replacing two aging box culverts between Mamaroneck Road and Kelwynne Road to improve stormwater capacity along the roadway.

A second closure is expected later this year when crews replace the northern culvert, shutting Catherine Road between Quaker Center and Mamaroneck Road. The village said it will work with the Scarsdale School District to reduce impacts during the fall phase.
