Five live bands, food from local restaurants and a farmers market will take over Scarsdale's Village Center on Sunday, Sept. 20, when the downtown shuts down for Rock the 'Dale.

The free celebration runs from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at 6 Spencer Place and is co-presented by the Village of Scarsdale and the Scarsdale Business Alliance (SBA). Rock the 'Dale is part of Destination Scarsdale, the SBA's weekly Sunday series that draws 500 to 750 visitors on a typical weekend, according to the group's program page. The series runs every Sunday through Nov. 23.

What to expect

Old Play, Hot Lunch, Local Politics, Louise in Trouble and The Del Bocas are all scheduled to perform. Village restaurants will offer food stations and lunch specials alongside the music.

The Down to Earth Farmers Market will be open at Chase Road and Spencer Place. The market opens at 8:30 a.m., 90 minutes before the main program begins, so early birds can shop for produce before the bands start.

Face painting, art projects and other family activities round out the lineup.

Road closures and parking

Drivers should plan ahead. The Village of Scarsdale announced road closures from 6 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. on Chase Road between Popham Road and Christie Place, Spencer Place, Boniface Circle and Harwood Court.

Free parking is available at Christie Place Garage, at 64 East Parkway, and on nearby streets outside the closed area.

Bicycle Sundays overlap

Sept. 20 also falls on a Westchester County Bicycle Sundays date. The county program, which has run since 1974, opens a 6.5-mile stretch of the Bronx River Parkway to cyclists, scooters, in-line skaters and pedestrians from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. The route runs from the Westchester County Center to Scarsdale Road in Yonkers, a 13-mile round trip. Admission is free.

The Village describes the center as a midpoint along the Bicycle Sundays route, making it a convenient stop for riders looking for lunch.
