Scarsdale commuters and downtown merchants will need to go digital to secure a parking spot this fall.

The Village Manager's Office announced Monday, Aug. 10, that it is eliminating paper parking permit applications for the first time, requiring everyone to use a new online portal when sales open Tuesday, Sept. 1, at 7 a.m.

The change affects all three permit categories: resident, non-resident and merchant. Permits purchased in the fall cycle take effect Thursday, Oct. 1.

The Village said in its announcement that the online Permit Purchase Portal will let applicants upload documents, pay by credit card and manage their permit information in one place. Paper applications, previously submitted by mail or drop-box at Village Hall, are no longer accepted.

What applicants need

All permit seekers must upload a copy of their vehicle registration and driver's license. Merchant permit applicants, who work at Scarsdale Village businesses, face an additional requirement: proof of employment with a Scarsdale-based business.

One technical note: the portal does not accept PDF-formatted images for document uploads.

Payments must be made within 48 hours of submitting an application, or the submission won't be processed. Those who prefer to pay by check can complete the application online and then bring payment to Village Hall.

Pricing and availability

Spots are limited. Applications are processed first-come, first-served, with priority given to residents and merchants. Non-resident permits for the 2025–2026 season are already sold out, according to the Village's permit parking page.

Fall semiannual rates range from $170 for the Village Hall Lot to $900 for the Christie Place Garage (residents) and $1,300 for Christie Place (non-residents). The Freightway Garage, a 495-space structure near the Metro-North station, runs $605 for residents and $880 for non-residents on a semiannual basis. Annual resident permits top out at $2,200 for the Station Premium Lot.

How to get started

Applicants should visit scarsdale.gov/permitpurchase, select "Register as a New User" and create an account before Sept. 1. Existing account holders do not need to re-register.
