Dozens of Scarsdale High School seniors grabbed sidewalk chalk and covered the pavement outside the Brewster Road entrance on Wednesday, Sept. 9, turning the walkway into a display of murals, inside jokes and class pride.
The annual Senior Chalking event ran from 7 to 8 a.m., with members of the Class of 2027 spreading out in matching senior apparel, Scarsdale10583 reported. The crowd grew quickly.
"After 20 minutes, everyone in our grade showed up and it was super fun and wholesome," said Krishaana, a senior at SHS. "My favorite part was just everyone coming together and contributing."
Senior Coby said the morning felt different from watching the tradition as an underclassman. He jumped between groups rather than sticking with one, he said, and spent part of the hour drawing TV and movie references alongside his friend Emma. Emma said the pair filled their section with inside jokes their friends would recognize when they walked past.
Throughout the rest of the school day, underclassmen and faculty walked through the chalk display at the entryway.
