Scarsdale will hold its own Sept. 11 memorial service Friday, Sept. 11, at 8:30 a.m. at the Village Public Safety Building, 50 Tompkins Road.

The village ceremony marks the 25th anniversary of the 2001 attacks. It is open to the public, according to the village calendar.

The Scarsdale service is separate from Westchester County's two commemorations at Kensico Dam Plaza in Valhalla. The county is holding an interfaith prayer vigil Thursday, Sept. 10, at 5 p.m., featuring faith leaders from Christian, Jewish, Hindu and Muslim communities, candle lighting and a wreath-laying ceremony at a steel beam from the Twin Towers. A county memorial service follows Friday, Sept. 11, at 2 p.m. That afternoon ceremony will include the reading of names of all Westchester County residents who died on Sept. 11, 2001, or from 9/11-related illnesses, according to a county press release.

Both county events are open to the public and will be livestreamed on Facebook and the Westchester County website. The village's morning ceremony ends well before the county's 2 p.m. service, giving residents time for both.

Westchester County Executive Ken Jenkins, in an Aug. 11 press release announcing the county events, said: "Behind every name is a life, a family, and a story that was never the same."

Scarsdale has a long connection to Sept. 11 remembrance. The village's Enduring Freedom monument, located at the American Legion Post 52 Memorial Garden at 311 Mamaroneck Road, was dedicated on May 5, 2002. The village describes it as the first 9/11 monument in New York State.

Communities across Westchester are holding their own ceremonies Friday. Westchester Magazine listed services in White Plains, Irvington, Ardsley, Larchmont, Dobbs Ferry, Mount Kisco, Rye and Yonkers, among others. Scarsdale's ceremony did not appear in that roundup.

The village has not released details about speakers, format or duration for Friday's service.
