The Scarsdale Woman's Club will open its doors to prospective members Tuesday, Sept. 22, with a free open house and membership fair at its historic clubhouse, 37 Drake Road.

The event runs from 1 to 4 p.m.

Representatives from nine club sections will be on hand to describe activities and answer questions. Sections cover art, literature and film, music, world culture and travel, home and garden, education, personal investing, pottery, and food and dining.

Attendees can also learn about trips to theaters, museums and gardens, along with the club's support of local charities.

The open house opens a fall public program schedule that is free and open to everyone. Programs begin at 2 p.m. unless otherwise noted.

Meghan Covington starts the lineup Sept. 23 with a talk on theater as a vehicle for social change.

The next day, Sept. 24, Sy Schreiber leads "Into the Wild," a presentation on a safari to Tanzania.

Page Knox follows Sept. 30 with "The Art of Mona's Eyes."

October brings a musical celebration of American history with Mauro Contrastano and Donna Cribani on Oct. 7, and a talk on Luigi DelBianco, the carver of Mount Rushmore, on Oct. 14.

A tag and book sale runs Oct. 17–18, with Saturday hours of 9 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. and Sunday hours of 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Joseph Sgammato presents "The Black Experience in American Cinema" on Oct. 21, and Tina Baccardi demonstrates puff pastry techniques Oct. 28.

The club rounds out the fall with a wine tasting and silent auction at 7 p.m. Nov. 12, and Robert Groban speaking on the history of immigration in the United States on Nov. 18.

The club, a 501(c)(3) nonprofit, draws members from 28 communities across Westchester and beyond, according to its website.

Its philanthropic work is active: in August, the club donated $1,500 to Hospice of Westchester, with member Mary Ann Alling presenting the gift. Hospice CEO Mary K. Spengler said in an Aug. 28 Yonkers Times article that the club "has been a strong supporter of our organization for years."

Prospective members can contact the club at (914) 723-0024 or visit scarsdalewomansclub.org.
