Sprouts Farmers Market opened its first Westchester County store Friday, Sept. 4, filling a 24,000-square-foot space in Hartsdale's Dalewood Shopping Center at 393 N. Central Ave.

Store director Linwood Shannon leads a team of about 100 employees at the location, which occupies the former BEST Market space near the White Plains border. Shannon told Westfair Communications ahead of the opening, "Our biggest thing is helping people live and eat better. You won't find Doritos on our shelves. But you'll find healthier options."

A ribbon-cutting at 6:45 a.m. preceded the 7 a.m. door opening. The store is open daily, 7 a.m. to 10 p.m.

Greenburgh Town Supervisor Paul Feiner, who said he had visited Sprouts locations in other states, praised the chain's produce quality ahead of the opening, according to Westfair Communications.

The Hartsdale location is store No. 499 for the Phoenix-based chain and its second in New York state, following a January 2026 opening in Centereach, Long Island. Sprouts operates across 25 states, according to a Town of Greenburgh press release.

Local produce comes from regional farms including Eastern Fresh Growers, Flaim Farms and Nardelli Bros. The store also participates in Sprouts' Food Rescue program, donating unsold but edible groceries to Feeding Westchester, the county's largest food bank, according to The Shelby Report.

Grand opening weekend ran Friday, Sept. 4, through Sunday, Sept. 6, with scavenger hunts, product sampling and a chance to win a $500 gift card. The first 200 shoppers on Friday and Saturday received free reusable totes, Progressive Grocer reported.

Piccolino Market, Capretta target fall openings in Scarsdale

Scarsdale Village has been without a grocery store since DeCicco Family Markets closed in November 2024 after 31 years at 58 East Parkway. That matters. DeCicco & Sons is now building Piccolino Market in that same space, targeting a fall 2026 opening.

The name means "little one" in Italian, a nod to the store's smaller footprint. It is the first time DeCicco & Sons has used a different name for one of its locations, lohud reported in February. Piccolino will carry gourmet groceries, Italian baked goods, fresh produce, prepared foods and humanely raised meats.

As of mid-August, exterior windows were installed and a crew was at work on the interior, according to scarsdale10583.com.

Down the block at 57 Spencer Place, Z Hospitality Group is building Capretta, a modern Italian restaurant in the former Akai space. Z Hospitality also operates Aurora in Rye and Terra and Mediterraneo in Greenwich. Construction was underway as of mid-August, with workers laying a colorful tile floor.

No confirmed opening dates have been announced for Piccolino or Capretta.
