Scarsdale is one of the few communities in the country with two golf courses ranked among the nation's 100 best classics, after Golfweek named both Quaker Ridge Golf Club and Fenway Golf Club to its 2026 top-100 list.

The ranking, reported by lohud on Tuesday, Aug. 4, evaluates U.S. courses that opened before 1960. Both private Scarsdale clubs sit along the Hutchinson River Parkway, separated by a stretch of pavement and more than a century of shared history.

Both were designed by A.W. Tillinghast, the Hall of Fame architect behind Winged Foot in neighboring Mamaroneck. Tillinghast was inducted into the World Golf Hall of Fame in 2015.

Quaker Ridge was established in 1916. Tillinghast later replaced John Duncan Dunn's original nine-hole layout with a full 18. The club is listed on the National Register of Historic Places and has hosted the Walker Cup and Curtis Cup.

Fenway's course opened July 4, 1924, on what had been the 40-acre estate of publishing baron Eugene Reynal. A group of businessmen tapped Tillinghast while he was simultaneously designing Quaker Ridge and Winged Foot nearby, according to the club's history.

Both courses have undergone modern restorations led by architect Gil Hanse, who used Tillinghast's original plans and aerial photographs believed to date from the late 1920s to rebuild green and bunker complexes and clear trees that had obscured original sightlines.

Golf course architect Tom Doak has said of Fenway on the club's website: "If it were located outside of the New York Metropolitan area, it would probably be a famous U.S. Open venue."

Sleepy Hollow Country Club and Winged Foot Golf Club (East and West courses) also made the top 100 from the broader Westchester area, making this corridor one of the densest concentrations of nationally ranked classic courses in the country.
