Westchester County is one of the most technologically advanced county governments in the country, according to a national survey released this week.

The county ranked second in the nation among mid-sized counties in the 2026 Digital Counties Survey, trailing only Prince William County, Virginia. The annual rankings, conducted by the Center for Digital Government and the National Association of Counties, evaluate everything from cybersecurity to online government services.

For residents of Bronxville, Scarsdale and Eastchester, the recognition reflects many of the services they use every day—paying taxes online, applying for permits, accessing public records and interacting with county departments digitally.

County Executive Ken Jenkins said the award recognizes Westchester's efforts to make government more secure, efficient and accessible. Chief Information Officer Marguerite Beirne accepted the honor on the county's behalf.

The survey scores counties in seven areas, including cybersecurity, digital services, data management, innovation and long-term technology planning. Organizers said this year's highest-ranked counties stood out for investing in artificial intelligence, improving data governance and strengthening cybersecurity.

Those priorities are becoming increasingly important nationwide. The survey found cybersecurity has remained counties' top technology priority for 13 straight years, while more local governments are developing policies for using AI responsibly.

The award was presented during the National Association of Counties' annual conference in New Orleans.
