Bronxville, Scarsdale and Eastchester seniors can get free legal and financial guidance at the 26th Annual Senior Law Day on Thursday, Oct. 8, at the Westchester County Center in White Plains.
The event runs from 8:45 a.m. to 2 p.m. at 198 Central Avenue. It is open to all Westchester County seniors and their families. Parking is free.
County Executive Ken Jenkins announced the event on Sept. 17, saying the day is designed to help older adults and their families tackle estate planning, health care decisions, financial planning and long-term care.
Jenkins called it a chance for seniors to "plan for the future with confidence."
Sixteen educational workshops will cover those topics throughout the day. Attendees can also sign up on-site for free 15-minute one-on-one consultations with elder law attorneys, certified financial planners, geriatric care managers and Medicare specialists. Those consultations are available only through on-site sign-up.
"We can't stress enough the importance of planning, especially when it comes to aging," Acting Commissioner of Senior Programs and Services Randolf Scott said in the county's Sept. 17 announcement.
"Senior Law Day helps Westchester families navigate the legal, financial, and health-related concerns that all of us experience as we grow older."
The event has run for 26 years, making it one of the county's longest-standing resources for seniors.
It is presented by the Westchester County Department of Senior Programs and Services, the Westchester Public/Private Partnership for Aging Services and the Senior Law Day Collaborative.
The collaborative is co-chaired by Melinda Bellus, attorney-in-charge of Legal Services of the Hudson Valley's Yonkers office; Megan Brown, communications and marketing coordinator at the Westchester Library System; Samantha Lyons, a partner at Enea, Scanlan & Sirignano LLP; and Sarah A. Steckler, a partner at Warshaw Burstein LLP.
Advance registration is encouraged at the Senior Law Day website, though walk-ins are welcome.
