The Junior League of Bronxville is looking for new members and will hold an open house on Tuesday, Oct. 6, for women interested in joining the volunteer organization.

The "Intros & Info" session runs from 7 to 9 p.m. in Bronxville, according to the league's social media. Attendees can meet current members and learn how the league operates before deciding whether to apply.

Any woman 21 or older who lives or works in Bronxville, Eastchester, Mount Vernon, Tuckahoe or Yonkers is eligible, according to the league's membership page. Applicants must turn 21 by Aug. 1, 2026. The 2026–2027 recruiting period opens in October.

Women who attend the info session can then enter a provisional class, a one-year program running October through June that introduces new members to the league's mission and community projects. At the end of that year, provisional members decide whether to pursue active membership.

The league's volunteer work spans five communities in lower Westchester and focuses on food insecurity, education and family wellness, according to its website. One of its signature efforts is the Joyful Closet at Edward Williams School in Mount Vernon, a collaboration with Bundles of Joy NY that provides clothing, shoes, toiletries and school supplies to students across the Mount Vernon City School District.

Sarah Darwin, chair of the Joyful Closet, said in a Sept. 9 article from the Mount Vernon City School District that social workers and teachers across the district can fill out a form on behalf of any student who needs supplies. Items can then be distributed to anyone in the school district, Darwin said.

According to the same school district article, the Joyful Closet also hosts a donation event each June to restock supplies for summer.

Women interested in attending the Oct. 6 session can RSVP through the league's registration page. Those who want to get involved without joining can email [email protected].
