Westchester County formally launched a fire safety video campaign on Sunday, Aug. 16, after a string of deadly residential fires this year, including one Friday night when county dispatchers logged 17 structural fire calls.

The four public service announcement videos are available now and cover the risks most likely to affect Bronxville, Eastchester and Scarsdale households. The Eastchester Fire District serves the Town of Eastchester and the Villages of Tuckahoe and Bronxville, and Chief Mark Iannucci of the DES Fire Division said residents can also contact their local fire departments for additional safety information.

The campaign was prompted by rising public inquiries for fire safety information in the wake of this year's fatal fires, the county said.

The videos cover kitchen fire safety, bedroom fire risks, smoke and carbon monoxide detector maintenance, and family evacuation planning. The kitchen safety video includes tips such as keeping pot handles turned inward, keeping a lid nearby when frying and never leaving food unattended on the stove.

Iannucci urged residents to use non-emergency phone numbers for fire safety questions and to call 911 only in an actual emergency. All four videos are available on the Westchester County Government YouTube page.
