Fresh off a state football championship and another standout year across nearly every sport, Bronxville High School has been named a finalist for the 2026 Tom Whelan All-Sports Award, recognizing the top overall athletic programs in Westchester.
Presented annually by The Journal News/lohud, the award honors schools that excel across an entire athletic department—not just one championship team. Bronxville joins an elite group of finalists after another banner year and is once again in the conversation as one of the county's premier sports programs.
The Broncos' biggest headline came on the football field, where they captured the New York State Class C championship. Standout Thomas Freeman helped lead the title run before committing to Princeton.
But the success didn't stop there.
In June, Athletic Director Anthony Vaglica celebrated 22 Bronxville seniors who will continue their athletic careers in college, representing sports from football and lacrosse to rowing, track, tennis, squash and field hockey. The group is headed to powerhouse programs including Princeton, Duke, MIT, Williams, Bowdoin and Middlebury.
Among the future college athletes are:
- Quinn Sheehan (lacrosse, Duke)
- Walker Moore (football, Williams)
- Masha Lekovic (rowing, MIT)
- Charlotte Murray (lacrosse, Middlebury)
The Tom Whelan Awards recognize sustained excellence across an entire school year, rewarding programs that consistently compete at the highest level in multiple sports. Bronxville's return to the finalist list underscores what many local fans already know: the Broncos continue to set the standard for high school athletics in Westchester.
Schedules for the 2026-27 fall sports season have not yet been released, but expectations will once again be high as Bronxville looks to build on another championship-caliber year.
