The Bronxville Board of Education is holding a special meeting Tuesday, Oct. 6, at 6 p.m. with a single personnel action on the agenda.
The meeting agenda, posted Monday, Oct. 5, lists only one substantive item: a "Personnel Action Item" requiring a board vote. The district has not disclosed whether the action involves a hire, resignation, leave or other staffing decision.
The agenda offers no details.
Board President Eddie Lennon is set to call the meeting to order in the School Board Room at the Bronxville School, 177 Pondfield Rd.
The agenda also calls for the appointment of a Clerk Pro Tem, a temporary stand-in for the board's regular clerk. The district's regular board clerk is Connie Lourentzatos, secretary to Superintendent Dr. Rachel Kelly. No explanation for why a temporary substitute is needed appears in the agenda.
The six-member board includes Lennon, Vice President Sara Kenny, Michael Brandes, Susan Conniff, Peter J. McSherry and Christina P. Skinner, all seated at the July 7 reorganization meeting.
Special meetings in the Bronxville district are called to address time-sensitive issues outside the regular schedule, according to the Bronxville Non-Partisan Committee. The NPC has noted that such meetings have become more frequent in recent years.
At its Sept. 22 regular meeting, the board approved a batch of personnel actions covering middle school advisors, leaves, teacher mentoring changes and staff overages, according to a meeting report from myHometown Bronxville. The board also raised substitute teacher pay rates for certified teachers to stay competitive. That same meeting listed a closed-to-the-public board retreat for Oct. 6. Whether that retreat is still taking place or has been replaced by this special meeting is unclear.
The board has entered executive session at multiple meetings this year to discuss personnel matters. At its May 7 meeting, members went into closed session to discuss "the employment history of particular individuals and potential litigation." The June 23 meeting included a similar executive session that also covered collective negotiations with the BTA Clerical/Health Unit and the Bronxville Administrators Association.
The agenda includes an "Upcoming Meeting" information item, suggesting the board will announce its next meeting date during the Oct. 6 session.
