Eastchester High School's student government spent Wednesday, Sept. 30, training its newest officers for the year ahead.

The Eastchester Government Organization (EGO) held its annual leadership workshop at EHS, pairing senior officers with freshmen from the Class of 2030 for team-building exercises, planning sessions and discussions about leadership practices, the district said. The workshop also mapped out how EGO will serve students during the 2026-27 school year.

EGO President Elias Alexander, a senior who has been in the organization since his freshman year, said the workshop gives younger members the same kind of guidance he received as an underclassman.

"When I came in as a freshman, I kind of didn't know how to work cooperatively with a team," Alexander said. "But I think watching all of the older kids work together and seeing how everything fits together provided a great model for me."

Alexander also served as the first Student Representative to the Eastchester Union Free School District Board of Education during the 2025-26 school year, attending board meetings starting in July 2025, the district reported at the board's final meeting in June 2026.

The Sept. 30 workshop covered event logistics, marketing and outreach for EGO initiatives. EGO Treasurer Miranda Correa, a senior, said the day was especially important for freshmen because it explained the role EGO plays throughout the year and showed newer officers what their specific responsibilities are.

Two events are already on the calendar: the EGO Blood Drive on Thursday, Oct. 8, and the Fall Pep Rally on Friday, Oct. 16. The pep rally is part of Homecoming Weekend.

Correa said planning Homecoming Weekend events can be a formative experience for freshmen finding their footing in student government. She added that the fall pep rally produces strong school spirit and that every EGO member has a part in putting it together.

EGO Secretary Rachel Melly said building a team mentality early matters because officers work on so many events together throughout the year. She said the workshop helps younger officers learn how to lead both in their class and in the wider school community.

Families looking ahead can mark Oct. 8 for the blood drive and Oct. 16 for the Homecoming Weekend pep rally at EHS.
